Bruce Atkinson is a member Eastern Metropolitan Region.

Bruce was first elected to the Victorian Parliament in 1992 as the Member for the former Koonung Province. He was elected as a member of Eastern Metropolitan Region in 2006, and was re-elected in 2010 and 2014.

He attended Nunawading Primary and Mitcham High School and then started a career in journalism and later established a business involved in publishing, marketing and consultancy services, predominantly servicing the retail industry.

Bruce is a member of his local Rotary Club and has a keen interest in sports including cricket, football and soccer.  He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Royal Society of Victoria, Deakin Literature Society, Australian Poetry, National Trust, Royal Overseas League and Box Hill RSL as well as a director of the Eastern Football League.

In parliament, Bruce was the Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Local Government from 1996 to 1998, and was Shadow Minister for Small & Medium Enterprise, WorkCover and Sport & Recreation, between 2002 and 2006 and Deputy President of the Legislative Council between 2006 and 2010. He was elected President of the Legislative Council in 2010 and retained that position following the 2014 state election.

Bruce has held public office in the eastern suburbs for 40 years with 17 in local government and more than 23 in state parliament.
